WELCOME to marvelous Melbourne, Florida. We hope that you partake in all of the numerous and varied activities our area has to offer. With the Melbourne International Airport centrally located in the city, it is an easy and convenient way to travel. We want you to arrive here ASAP so you can begin to unwind, relax and enjoy yourself. To help you start to decompress, we suggest that you walk along a stretch of the 33 miles of unspoiled beaches, hunt for treasured Sea Beans, sand dollars or any number of our wondrously beautiful seashells. All of the 38 Brevard County Parks and Recreation facilities are free of charge to the public and most of them are located right along the gorgeous coastline. Visit the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge out on A-1-A. The Refuge spans 20.5 linear miles along Florida's Central and southeast coast. The Barrier Island Visitor Center and Sanctuary offers environmental education programs, tours, exhibits on sea turtles and a 3/4 mile foot trail to explore the natural vegetation of the local area. Learn all about the Spoil Islands in Brevard County by kayaking out to one of the many to choose from. The Florida Inland Navigation District created these islands with material dredged out of the Indian River Lagoon to create and maintain the Intercostals waterway. This is a wonderful way to explore and learn about the history of Florida. For all of those who love to "bird watch," the Viera Wetlands at Rich Grissom Memorial Park has an abundance of "birding" opportunities so don't forget to bring your camera, sun screen, hat and bird guide.
Spring training for all those baseball enthusiasts has started up here in Melbourne again this month of March. Don't forget to stop by the Space Coast Stadium for an autograph or two from one of your favorite Washington National players. If you have Art in your heart, Melbourne has been blessed with an impressive assortment of talented people living here in our area. The Brevard Art Museum in the Eau Gallie Arts District regularly display works done by local Florida artists, as well as offering many classes in various mediums to those interested in stepping up their experience a notch or two. For the musically inclined there are regularly scheduled performances at the many outdoor parks, indoor performing art centers, colleges and community centers as well as ongoing juried art shows, craft festivals, gardening events and food exhibits. Every month the Eau Gallie Art District hosts an entertaining gallery walk on the first Friday night of every month.
