GARAGE A TROIS with SOPHISTAFUNK Show Date: 2011-12-14 A force greater than the sum of its colossal parts, Garage A Trois features Seattle-based saxophonics master Skerik, Brooklyn sound-sculptor/keysman Marco Benevento, Texas-born punk rock vibraphone hero Mike Dillon and New Orleans funky drummer/beat master Stanton Moore. After the success of the quartet's 2009 release, Power Patriot (also the band's debut with Benevento replacing original member Charlie Hunter), Garage A Trois headed to Studio In The Country in Bogalusa, LA (where masterpieces by The Neville Brothers, Stevie Wonder and The Wild Magnolias have been cut) to record with revered engineer/producer Randall Dunn (Cave Singers, Black Mountain, Sun City Girls). As has become the band's primary focus in its current incarnation, a laser sharp focus was applied to capturing Garage A Trois' sinewy, fourth-dimensional, polychromatic instrumental songwriting. They then added Mike Dillon in 2002. In 2007 Charlie Hunter left the band and Marco Benevento joined. This union of musical forces has only increased the creative output of these musicians-and apparently really helped their grundle. Skerik - Saxophonist: Also a founding member of Critters Buggin', Skerik has been known to fraternize with the Black Flames, SadHappy, Tuatara (with Peter Buck of R.E.M.), Ponga, Mike Clark's Prescription Renewal (with original Headhunters drummer Mike Clark, Charlie Hunter, Robert Walter, and DJ Logic), Crack Sabbath, Blotallica, and Elemental. Skerik has jammed with soul legend Fred Wesley, Pink Floyd mastermind Roger Waters, and Les Claypool's Frog Brigade. Stanton Moore - Drums and Polyrhythms: A founding member of the New Orleans funk-groove unit Galactic, Stanton is also in the New Orleans Klezmer All Stars, organ quartet Moore & More, and MVVP with Johnny Vidacovich, Rich Vogel, and George Porter Jr. Stanton has also released two solo joints, and has worked with Chris Wood (of Medeski Martin & Wood), Karl Denson, and guitarist Brian Seeger. Downbeat magazine has extolled Stanton's 'affinity for raw rhythm and funky drum gymnastics.' Marco Benevento - Keys and Organ: Marco Benevento is best known as one half of the Benevento/Russo Duo along with Joe Russo. Previously, he was a member of The Jazz Farmers, and has been a regular on the New York City contemporary, experimental jazz scene for years.
