Welcome to Smugglers' Notch, Vermont!

The Smugglers’ Notch Area of Vermont is a four-season vacation destination on what some locals refer to as ‘the quiet side of the Mountain’. Outstanding natural beauty, great recreational opportunities, and unspoiled Vermont villages combined with fantastic local shopping, services, lodging, and restaurants within Smugglers’ Notch and Jeffersonville, Cambridge, Johnson, Hyde Park and Morrisville provide visitors a truly unique experience.
Smugglers’ Notch is a spectacular pass at the foot of Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak, and the road through the Notch, Route 108, is one of two officially designated scenic highways in the state. During the winter months a few miles of Route 108 are closed at the summit, and the Notch becomes a haven for snowshoeing, skiing, and ice climbing. With two major ski resorts adjacent to the Notch, it remains the focal point of activity throughout the year. At Jeffersonville, Route 108 and the cold, clear Brewster River winding alongside it meet with Route 15, the area’s main east-west highway, and with the larger Lamoille River. All this makes the area both easily accessible and rich in places to hike, canoe, fish, bike, and relax.
Many of the charming area businesses offer Vermont products from local artisans and craftsmen, as well as delicious local produce, baked goods and organic foods. This is the place to shop for that classic yet unique Vermont gift. There are also several antique stores where you might find just that perfect piece for your living room. After you’ve enjoyed some “retail therapy” and a homemade cookie and cappuccino from one of the many quaint cafes or bakeries, there is still plenty left to do. Skiing, snowboarding, or a sleigh ride during the winter months are just a few fun activities to choose from. Swimming, boating, a ride on the zip line or a time spent at the outdoor waterpark during the warmer months of summer or fall are other great ways to spend your day. After your more exciting adventures, a little down time may be just what the doctor ordered… you could always relax with a massage or take in the scenery with a foliage drive thru the Notch. Consider hiking at the top of the Notch on some of the unique trails that twist and turn through the enormous rocks. Along with a wide range of shops, and things to do and see, The Smugglers’ Notch Area and surrounding towns offer fabulous dining options. Whether in the mood for a burger made from local beef, NY style pizza, Mexican or Italian cuisine, the possibilities are endless. There is a plethora of pub style and fine dining restaurants to choose from. Once satiated, you can head for an overnight at a local B&B, Country Inn or hotel. Time to rest up before another day exploring this incredible place in Vermont.
A visit to the area and you will without a doubt fall in love. This is the Vermont experience you’ve been looking for!
