729-4 Dear CGAIT Member, Welcome to the registration page for the the 2011 CGAIT Fall Conference at The Lodge at Vail! The theme for this Conference is "Charting the Course". The 2011 CGAIT Fall Conference theme, "Charting the Course", really came to life through a 2007 magazine article that appeared in EDUCAUSE Review, vol. 42, no. 6 (November/December 2007). The title of the article is Winds of Change: Charting the Course for IT in the Twenty-First Century. It was written by Brian L. Hawkins, who at the time was the President of EDUCAUSE. Hawkins was writing to IT leaders at institutions of higher education, but much of what he wrote about in the article can be applied to IT leaders in general, including government IT leaders. In the article Hawkins describes "… ten nautical maxims for charting the course of higher education IT in the twenty-first century." Here are Hawkins' ten nautical maxims: View IT from the crow's nest - vision Seek signs of being on the right course - alignment Have a strong captain at the helm - leadership Remember that the crew wasn't shanghaied - inclusiveness Beware . . . there be dragons! - courage Hold steady in rough seas - resourcefulness Depend on the rest of the convoy - collaboration Navigate by more than the stars - measurement Navigate to the correct shore - strategic Know when the ship passes - change We hope that you experience the theme of the Conference, "Charting the Course", in every session and networking opportunity. As Officers of CGAIT and hosts of the conference, we are proud to have a great keynote speaker and many great presenters scheduled. We hope you'll join us as well. Sincerely, Michele Hovet, CGAIT Chair, City of Arvada Ken Price, CGAIT Vice-Chair, City of Littleton Mark Pray, CGAIT Treasurer - City of Aurora Terry Barber, CGAIT Vice-Treasurer, Routt County Kevin Capp, Member at Large, CGAIT Web Site Coordinator - Town of Castle Rock
