He began playing professionally in the '60s and was a part of the "New Bob Dylan" scene in the late '60s, early '70s (and subject of a humorous ode to Dylan on the singer's 50th birthday). To date, Wainwright has released 21 studio albums. Reflecting upon his career, in 1999, Wainwright stated "you could characterize the catalog as somewhat checkered, although I prefer to think of it as a tapestry." "...one of America's most astute lyrical commentators...lyrically compelling and emotionally overpowering." – Mojo ABOUT THE UNDERGROUND SOUND CONCERT SERIES: The Underground Sound Concert Series is “listening” music. It’s singer/songwriters with something to say. Each song is a story in and of itself, played out in the intimate setting of Beaver Creek’s Vilar Performing Arts Center. Think house concert…in a very nice house. The vibe is unpretentious, but the music is exceptional. It’s music with a message, but it’s easy on the senses. Check out the Underground Sound at the VPAC.
