The fifth annual Carmel Authors and Ideas Festival will bring to Carmel-by-the-Sea more than 35 award winning authors and speakers, including authors of New York Times best-sellers, Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winners, as well as winners of virtually every prestigious literary award.

Speakers will include Peggy Noonan, the bestselling author of “A Heart, a Cross and a Flag: America Today”, a collection of post-9/11 Wall Street Journal columns; Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, already assured a unique and illustrious place in American history as a successful jurist and the first woman to sit on the Supreme Court of the United States, she is also an author; Dave Barry, a Pulitzer Prize winning columnist whose work appears in more than 500 newspapers in the US and abroad; Ridley Pearson, co-writer with Dave Barry of adult suspense novels, and also the author of the award-winning “The Kingdom Keepers” series; Scott Turow, a practicing lawyer and well-known author of nine bestselling works with more than 25,000,000 books sold worldwide, including “Presumed Innocent” and its sequel “Innocent”, which have been adapted into a full length feature film and TV miniseries; Rick Reilly, a sportswriter for Sports Illustrated, ABC Wide World of Sports and front-page columnist for ESPN.com, and voted National Sportswriter of the Year 11 times, as well a successful screen-writer and novelist; Dr. Nancy Snyderman, a practicing physician who went on to cover medical news for both NBC and CBS on the Today Show, 20/20 and the national Nightly News programs bringing health education to an ever growing large national audience. These are just a few of the luminaries who will be here in Carmel-by-the-Sea this September.

The Festival will be held in the intimate and luxurious Sunset Community Center right in the middle of Carmel-by-the-Sea. There will be ample book signings and opportunities to meet and speak with our authors. If you’ve ever been to Carmel then you know how cozy and thoroughly enjoyable the experience can be. The creative ambience of Carmel and the Monterey Peninsula, where John Steinbeck and Robert Louis Stevenson found solace and a source of inspiration, envelopes the Sunset Center every September with this unique event. Past Festivals have shown us it is an event eagerly looked forward to by the award winning authors as they become attendees themselves and join in the audience. It is truly a shared literary event.

Because we insure a certain degree of intimacy for our authors and attendees, tickets are limited and requests for tickets are filled in the order in which they are received.
